Our School Staff
Cheryl Geyer
Mrs. Cheryl Geyer is a graduate of Concordia Teachers College in
River Forest, Illinois. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Early
Childhood Education and in Elementary Education and a Master’s
degree in Early Childhood Education.
Teaching and being with children brings much joy to Cheryl’s
life. She loves to share her love of literature and music and
make different units come alive in the classroom.
Cheryl and her husband Thomas have three children. They are
members of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Anthem.

Thomas Geyer
Mr. Thomas Geyer is a graduate of Concordia Teachers College in
River Forest, Illinois. He earned both his Bachelor and Masters
Degrees at Concordia, the latter in administration. Tom has
served as a teacher, athletic director, coach, and principal in
Lutheran schools in Chicago, Illinois; Elkhart, Indiana; Fort
Worth, Texas, and here in Anthem. While serving as principal at
St. Paul Lutheran School in Fort Worth, Tom led his faculty
through the process that earned the school the 2006 NCLB National
Blue Ribbon School award, the most prestigious award bestowed upon
a school.
A product of Lutheran education and a child of a teacher, Tom
loves what he does and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. He
enjoys the challenges and new opportunities each day brings in a
Christian environment.
In his spare time, Tom enjoys watching sporting events,
particularly Detroit Pistons, Detroit Red Wings, and University of
Michigan football.
Tom and his wife, Cheryl, have three children and reside in
Anthem.

Paula Hess
Mrs. Hess retired in 1998 from AK Steel Company
with 30 years of service in the Accounts Payable Department and as
the Supervisor of Hourly and Salary Payrolls. Paula attended
Muskingum Area Technical College, Ohio University and was a State
of Ohio Certified Payroll Professional.
Paula served on the Board of Directors of COC Lutheran Church, is
currently a member of the School Board and has been the
Comptroller for COC Christian School since opening in 2005. Paula
and her husband, Campbell moved from Zanesville,Ohio to Anthem in
2001 and are Charter Members of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.
Mr. & Mrs. Hess have nine grandchildren and one great
granddaughter.
Paula appreciates Arizona’s heat, bike riding, walking, laughing,
trap shooting at Ben Avery and watching forensics. Paula gives
all praise and thanksgiving to God for allowing her to be part of
the staff and your child’s day at Cross of Christ Christian
School.

Del Mau
Mr. Mau grew up in Sheldon, WI (Green Bay Packer territory). He
graduated from Concordia University in St. Paul, MN. While there
he met his wife, Jacqie.
He has taught in a Lutheran school in Indianapolis, IN, Winfield, KS (where he earned his Masters Degree from Wichita State
University), Tucson, AZ, and Houston, TX (where he served as the 8th
grade teacher, Science and Gym teacher for grades 6-8 and the
drama, volleyball, and softball coach). Mr. Mau teaches 5th
grade and Science to grades 3-5 at Cross of Christ.
The Maus have five
children and six grandchildren. They worship at Cross of Christ
Lutheran Church.

Jacqie Mau
Mrs. Mau graduated from Concordia University in St. Paul, MN. She
has served Lutheran schools in Indianapolis, IN, Winfield, KS,
Tucson, AZ, and Houston, TX. She has taught Kindergarten through
8th grade with most of her experience in grades 2-4.
She and her family made Anthem their home in the summer of 2007.
Mrs. Mau enjoys teaching 1st grade at Cross of Christ
currently.
Being a mother of five and grandmother of 6 keeps her life full
and rich. She enjoys hiking, reading, and writing whether with
her family or her husband, who also teaches at Cross of Christ.

Liza
Miguel
Liza Miguel attended Glendale Community College in Glendale,
Arizona, where she graduated in the summer of 2007 with her
Associates degree in Early Childhood Education. Liza has worked
in the Early Childhood profession for 7 years.
Mrs. Miguel enjoys teaching very much. She treats the children
with respect and a true understanding of who they are as little
people. Her passion is four year olds.
Mrs. Miguel enjoys spending time with her family. She is a
wife & mother of 2 boys and feels family is the key to
success. She enjoys interior design and shopping.

Scott
Moeller
Mr. Moeller received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary
Education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1993 and is
currently pursuing a Masters of Education degree from Concordia
University-Irvine. He taught middle school Social Studies for
five years in Texas, Missouri and Iowa before moving to Arizona in
1999. After a stint working for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Mr.
Moeller returned to teaching at Cross of Christ in 2005 where he
has taught grades three through five.
He
completed the Colloquy program through Concordia University-Irvine
in 2006. This intensive religion/doctrine course certifies him as
a Commissioned Teacher in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Mr.
Moeller is licensed by the State of Arizona
with endorsements in both elementary and secondary education.
Mr. Moeller believes in using a variety of teaching techniques to
meet the needs of each individual student and in reinforcing
learned concepts throughout the school year and across
curriculums. He believes in teaching children to be responsible
for their work and actions and in developing good organizational
skills in order to prepare students for middle school. He also
believes that it is his role as a teacher to assist the students
in growing, not only academically, but also spiritually,
emotionally, physically, and socially.
Scott and his wife, Keri, have a daughter and a son and are
members of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.

Megan Schmidt
Megan Schmidt attended Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska
where she graduated in 2006 with her degree in Elementary
Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Education. The
summer following her graduation she was a 4 year old preschool
teacher before moving to Arizona.
Megan grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado with her dad, who is
an accountant; mom, who is an editor for the Colorado Springs
newspaper; and two sisters, who are currently in college. She
married her husband, Preston in 2006 who is a financial advisor
for Thrivent Financial. They are expecting their first child this
summer.
Megan loves teaching because it provides a wonderful opportunity
to make a difference in the lives of children. She believes in
working as a team with parents to help their children grow to be
bold and confident Christians.
In her free time Megan enjoys walking her puppy, working out,
cooking, and being with friends and
are
parents to a son.

Cindy Schmitt
Mrs. Schmitt grew up in Neenah, Wisconsin where she attended
Lutheran schools K-12. Her dad was a Health Care Executive and
her mother, a homemaker. She attended Valparaiso University in
Indiana and received a Bachelor of Social Work degree. She
received her Master’s Degree in Social Work and Marriage and
Family Therapy at the University of WI-Milwaukee in 1995. She and
her husband, Rob, have been married since 1996. Mrs. Schmitt has
an older brother, who still lives in Wisconsin, and a younger
sister, who is the owner of Carefree Crossroads Ranch in Cave
Creek. Her parents are now retired and live in Scottsdale.
Rob
and Cindy have two children, a son and a daughter.
Up until teaching here at Cross of Christ, Mrs. Schmitt taught at
a Montessori School, and worked in various capacities as a
geriatric social worker. She was also the Director of the Child
Care Center at St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Center in
Milwaukee. She also spent several years in private practice
counseling teenage girls.
With her free time, Mrs. Schmitt enjoys doing genealogy, working
with her miniature horse, shopping and spending time with her
family and 2 dogs!
Mrs. Schmitt began teaching at Cross of Christ during the
2006-2007 school year. She feels very blessed to be a part of the
early years of a child’s learning and helping them come to know
their Savior!

Rachel
White
Rachel
White grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and then moved to Arizona
where she attended Christ Lutheran School in Phoenix and Valley
Lutheran High School. She graduated from Concordia University in
Mequon, Wisconsin with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood
Education. In the fall of 2005, she joined Cross of Christ and has
been teaching Kindergarten ever since. Currently, she is in the
process of completing her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood
Education with a Reading Endorsement.
Rachel
is thankful for the opportunity to share God’s love with the
children and families that attend Cross of Christ Church and
School. She believes in hugs
and lots of praise to set an example of caring for others.
She strives to create a warm and positive
environment where personal relationships can develop. She enjoys
spending time with friends and family and is always in the middle
of a few good books.
